Not many students on the Hillside knew much about Ms. Lynn Mellis Worthington’s, Digital Communications class this fall. All one could see if looking through the garage door windows is seven boys striving to learn about digital technology, and a teacher who does everything she can to make sure each student is working to their potential.
The class consists of Danny DeRocco, Danny Egan, Cesar Gonzalez, Sean McVey, Delano Williams, Jabrille Williams and Ben Welton. The teachers are Ms. Worthington, with help from Mr. Anthony Larson and Mr. Gonzalo Garcia.
Basically, students in “Dig Comm” have the use of just about every camera in South Kent’s name. The technology we get to use surpasses anything close to what we have used before. Everyday there is something new to learn, and its all hands on.
Our class got right to things by making our first videos as interviews. We all were assigned a new teacher and had to seek him or her out ourselves and get the necessary information. It was fun but more importantly just another building block as a student.
The community of South Kent didn’t get a taste of the class’ effort until each student’s work was put on YouTube. It was easy to say that there was no looking back from there. Students throughout the community started to post the class videos on their Facebook walls, some videos receiving over 100 views in the first week they went up.
From day one there was always talk of our class having a web site we could call our own. This process started without much hesitation. Our class did everything: picked the name, designed the content of the website, and even selected the topics to put on it. When the class put our website out to the community, it got nothing but positive feedback. Everyone seemed to please with the result of our class.
But there are still stories to find and minds to fill. The sky is the only limit for the Digital Communications Class.
